Caged Bird

I thought I was free,
When the cage door opened.
A bird in flying through the air,
Until I felt the string around my neck and I asked,
How long will you hold me back?
How long til I am free of this?
Free of the burden of you,
The burden of the past,
And then in the midst of my blue,
I found the other side of the string was not with you,
But every strand,
Held tightly in my own hand.
